Workforce Development
The Workforce Development Program aims to equip formerly incarcerated individuals with the skills and credentials needed to secure meaningful employment. The program offers referrals for vocational training, job placement services, resume building, interview preparation, and ongoing career coaching. We also assist with information on records expungement to reduce barriers for employment.
Employment Challenges
Research from the Prison Policy Initiative reveals that formerly incarcerated people face unemployment rates five times higher than the general population. Employment is a key factor in successful reintegration, yet many employers are hesitant to hire individuals with a criminal record.
Economic Impact
The economic marginalization of formerly incarcerated individuals contributes to cycles of poverty and recidivism. A study by the Brookings Institution found that employment is strongly correlated with reduced recidivism, with steady employment reducing the likelihood of reoffending by up to 20%.
