College Readiness

The College Readiness Program is designed to prepare formerly incarcerated individuals for success in higher education. The program includes connecting individuals directly with college staff for student services and workshops on college success.

Background and Statistics

Educational Attainment and Recidivism

Studies have shown that education is one of the most effective tools in reducing recidivism. Individuals with higher education certificates and degrees are more likely to find stable employment, further reducing their likelihood of recidivism. California’s initiatives have shown that higher education reduces recidivism, changes lives, and builds stronger communities.

Barriers to Higher Education

Formerly incarcerated individuals often face significant barriers to accessing higher education, including gaps in academic knowledge, lack of financial resources, and limited awareness of available opportunities. The College Readiness Program is designed to address these barriers and provide tailored support to ensure these individuals can successfully transition to and thrive in a college environment.

Importance for North County San Diego:

This program will bridge the gap between incarceration and higher education, and we are open to serving those interested in any institution of higher education. We can provide a direct pipeline to three North County schools: MiraCosta College, Palomar College, and California State University at San Marcos.
